Nonverbal Communication

I was stuck in traffic along whyte ave having nothing better to do than look out the window and people watch. The way people communicated seems to depend a lot on their surroundings. There was a small group of people standing outside of a bar having a smoke, bodies angled only slightly towards one another, fidgeting with there hands, constantly getting pulled away from the conversation from the busyness that surrounded them. From my perspective it appeared as though either they barely knew each other based off of the uncomfortable stance, or their conversation was not engaging enough to keep their attention from getting distracted.
In comparison I was also giving the chance to observe two ladies sitting in a coffee shop. There body language was completely opposite of the small group out side the bar. Fully engage, shoulders facing one another, leaning in slightly. One lady had her hand on her lower part of her face, eyes glued to the words as they came out of the other ladies mouth. It made me want to be apart of, included in on the conversation. The way they used their heads to signify that they understood seemed so inviting. Two black and white situations.

  1. I like that you compared two very different social settings. It's amazing how much body language can tell us and that you were able to pick out how comfortable each group felt with one another.

  2. Our body language tells us more than I thought, I was never fully aware of how my body language was portraying myself to others in a conversation until watching others.
